Zune 3.0 Fall Update

After reading Ed Bott's report on the latest iTunes update fiasco in An inside look at Apple’s sneaky iTunes 8 upgrade and the follow-up in his personal blog on How software installers should work, I am glad that the only Apple software I have on my computer is Quick Time, which is needed for Kodak EasyShare.

In contrast to Apple's methods, I know what will be included in the Zune 3.0 update for my Zune, available September 16th for download. In fact, the only thing included with the Zune software updates is . . . well, Zune software, adding improvements and new features.

Additions include the ability to purchase songs directly via FM radio stations that transmit with RDS or RT+ data feeds, audio books, new search features, games, and more. To really get a feel for the additions to Zune 3.0, see Jason Dunn's six-page review in Visiting Zune HQ for the Zune 3.0 Briefing.
